Today the Chancellor announced significant infrastructure investment and increases in departmental spending, the most significant announcement today was the increase in the National Living Wage to £8.91 per hour. Below we summaries the key announcements.
National Living Wage
National Living Wage will increase by 2.2% to £8.91 per hour, affecting around 2 million workers. The change will take place from April 2021.
Public Sector Pay Rises
NHS Doctors and nurses will get a pay rise, as do public sector employees earning less than the median wage (£24,000 p.a.). However, all other public sector works will not receive an increase.
Departmental Spending
Day to day departmental spending is set to increase by 3.8%. Though international aid is set to fall, with the target of spending 0.7% of national income revised down to 0.5%.
